The 2024 Sonoma Mendocino Economic Development District is sponsoring a Biomass Utilization Symposium that will bring together industry, academia, government, tribes and community-based organizations to explore the opportunities and challenges of implementing forest biomass utilization projects for fire safety, forest health, renewable energy, and wood products, and supporting the appropriate growth of sustainable, stewardship-based, rural economic development. Board of Supervisors approves funding in support of local tourism with continuation of Business Improvement Area Assessment

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved a continuation of the county’s Business Improvement Area Assessment without change for fiscal year 2023-24 after receiving the annual tourism assessment report from the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau. The assessment, which supports marketing activities to increase overnight visitors to the county, is expected to generate $4 million in revenue from businesses in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, Cloverdale, Cotati, Windsor and unincorporated areas. Sonoma County, nonprofit partner awarded $500,000 to promote free internet service for low-income households

The Sonoma County Economic Development Board has been awarded $300,000 from the Federal Communications Commission to expand local enrollment in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides free and discounted internet service to low-income households. Read full story
