Local Economic Forecast

Local-Economic-Report-2017-Cover-240-300The Local Economic Forecast Reports provides a snapshot of the strengths and weaknesses in the Sonoma County economy. Using U.S. Précis Metro data from Moody’s Analytics, the report analyzes employment, income, migration patterns, industries, and economic output to better understand current and expected economic conditions for the County. This report is presented in partnership with the Sonoma County Workforce Investment Board (WIB).

 2021 Economic Perspective

This annual winter forecast featured Dr. Jerry Nickelsburg. The continuing COVID-19 pandemic and recent wildfires have significantly changed our economic landscape, leaving much of our community and businesses vulnerable. This valuable insight provides context and understanding as our region continues on the path of economic recovery. Also included in 2021 Economic Perspective was a review the County's newly adopted Economic Recovery Action Plan and discussion of critical needs impacting local workforce, featuring a panel on childcare impacts to our workforce.

Dr. Nickelsburg plays a key role in the economic modeling and forecasting of the national, California and regional economic forecasts. He researches labor economics, industrial organization, statistics and international monetary economics, focusing on the development of new data and the application of economic theory and statistical methods to sector-specific policy issues. His current research encompasses transportation and environmental economics, and the relationships between highly skilled persons and their demand for social insurance. He has conducted special studies into the future of manufacturing in Los Angeles, the economic impact of the writers’ strike, the undocumented construction and manufacturing labor force, and the garment industry.
